Second day: Exploring the Messenia region.

After a Greek breakfast our first destination of the day was the ruins of the Nestor's Palace, built in the XIII Century B.C. and described in the Homer's Odyssey and Iliad.

Next to the palace, we found the Tholos, or funerary monument, where our Spanish partner Josefina will never forget what a slip is 😉. It was impressive to enter in this ancient construction and thinking about the meaning of the place for Greeks.

On the top of the hill, we discovered the palatial complex that consists of four principal buildings. An archeologist presented us the remains of the main building  where we located the throne room. One of the most important finds from the Palace are the Linear B tablets which give us information about the structure of its administration and its operations.

From the Palace we got wonderful views of the bay, where we went after.

The Voidokilia Beach is originated by the entrance of sea between two hills, we could find in the bay. On the top of one of them we could see the castle where is located the tomb of Nestor's son.   Two lagoons surrounded the bay.

After a brief visit we sadly leaved from the beach to Pylos Port. From the view point we enjoyed a small white greek village above the port.

Next stop was Pylos' Fortress. In the principal building, built by French, we could find an archeological museum with an important exhibition with part of the treasures which were found in the area.

A nice surprise was waiting for us close to the sea under the sun: a long classical greek table at the best restaurant of seafood of Pylos where we had a really tasted lunch with the best company.

With a good taste in our lips, we had the last visit of the day to the extraordinary Methoni's Fortress that looked like floating over the sea.

We are really thankful for the Greek team to open exclusively for us all these places and for this great day.
